Final Project Ideas

When thinking of this final project, I am not entirely sure on exactly what to do or how to come up with a project that is equivalent the same workload as an 8-10 pages paper. The only real sure thing that I truly know is that I am not choosing to write an 8-10 page paper. However, I did come across a few ideas for the project in which I would appreciate it if I could hear an opinion from an outside perspective.

The first idea that I came a cross is to write a screenplay and create a storyboard of scene from the fanfiction, Rage of Ultron. The other option is to actually personally film/edit a scene from the fanfiction, Rage of Ultron, or combine/edit clips of previous works in Marvels Cinematic Universe to create a trailer to this fanfiction as well as create a storyboard or a written screenplay. Rage of Ultron is a fan’s personal adaptations to the events that follow the Marvel’s film, Avengers: Age of Ultron. The story is about Tony Stark’s life after he quits the Avengers and is currently suffering from being entirely blamed for the destruction that was caused by Ultron. One night while Pepper is dealing with the dramatic drop in the company’s stocks. Tony is home alone starting to regret ever putting on the Iron Man suit and questions whether or not to give up being Iron Man and just donate all of the Iron Man suits to his best pal, Brody. Later that evening the power goes out and it is reveled that Ultron is still alive and he only wants to get revenge on he creator, Tony Stark.

The other idea is to create a personal adaptation of the Avengers. In this version, it follows the Avengers, in their late teens/early 20s, as college students. The story follows they struggle with being just an ordinary college student and still fighting crime. During their four years you will see as they join clubs, Greek life, and struggle in passing their classes. The way I would be personally creating this story film would be by either writing a screenplay for it, creating a storyboard, creating a trailer or creating/editing a short film about it.

My final idea is to create a storyboard, trailer or short film about the Dc Comics’ Justice League fighting against Marvel’s Avengers. This will be about their dimensions intertwining and the are accusing each other for the reason this had occurred and the chaos it brought to each other’s world.

Rage of Ultron

The Fan-Fiction that appeared the most intriguing was this fan’s, Seikan no Sozo-ryoku’s, story exploring Tony Stark’s life three months after he had retired from the Avengers, in Joss Whedon’s 2015 Film, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Sozo-ryoku’s extension of the story world appears to have more of a dark, serious, reverent, emotional, depressing and horrifying attitude. The scene first appears with Tony back in his reconstructed Malibu mansion, that was destroyed a few years back by Killian, in Iron Man 3 (Shane Black 2013). During that time, you can see him reading all the newspaper that had been blaming Stark for all the destruction that Ultron had caused. Even Stark Industries’ stocks had crashed severely. Since, Ultron was technically one of Tony Stark’s creations.

This invention of his was originally designed as an artificial intelligence that would focus on being a guardian of Earth and maintain the peace within it. That somehow had changed when Ultron suddenly went haywire, deemed the human race not worth to live on and attempted to wipe out the entire human race from existence, instead.

Tony appears to be struggling worst mentally, than he did in Iron Man 3 after almost having a near death experience saving the world from an alien invasion in The Avengers (Joss Whedon 2012). The guilt of all the destruction and death that Ultron and all of his previous weaponize inventions, prior to him becoming Iron Man, had caused was eating him up inside. The thing that feared and disturbed Stark the most was the similarities that he and Ultron had shared. Tony felt that he saw himself in Ultron’s mechanics. It was killing him so much that he was willing to give up being Iron Man forever. However, nothing made it worst then when Ultron appears to have survived from being destroyed and appears at Stark’s mansion to finish Tony off once and for all.

This fan-produced extension seems to both comply with existing plot developments and constitute some sort of intervention. The reason is that it does appear to be a potential plot because it does appeal to Tony Stark’s potential life after he leaves the Avengers in the second film. However, when referring to future films in marvel cinematic universe, it does interrupt Stark making his appearance in Captain America: Civil War that appears next spring, since in Sozo-ryoku’s extended version, Ultron ends up killing Tony Stark.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Season 3, Episode 22: “Graduation Day: Part 2” (20:00-23:04)

Through the examination of the season 3 finale, Graduation Day: Part 2, of Buffy the Vampire Slayer the viewer can gain an understanding of Whedon’s sarcastic style of writing in his film or television shows. Whedon is known for his sarcastic and witty commentary within the dialogue. This is apparent in the television show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, when the main groups of heroes or villains gather together to have a discussion prior to their crime. From the perspective of the viewers’, this scene is supposed to be a serious discussion on how they will defeat the mayor. But in true Whedon fashion, he incorporates some sarcastic/witty humor within commentary. When the Scooby Gang is mentioning the plans to Buffy, they state that her idea is insane and they are not entirely sure it will work. Immediately following this discussion, Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) states, “I don’t think it could be possible to come up with a crazier plan,” Oz (Seth Green) says, “We attack the mayor with hummus.” Which helps ease the tension within the gang and keeps everyone optimistic. In addition to the scene’s dialogue, the sequences editing is a key example to Whedon’s style. When it comes to the gang’s conversations, Whedon’s uses continuity editing; like the 180-degree rule, establishing shot, shot/reverse shot, and sound bridge; throughout the conversation. Viewers can also observe Whedon’s format of a group conversation within his film, The Avengers. In this scene, the heroes are at the SHIELD’s Helocarrier discussing their next strategy on how to get the teserac back after capturing Loki. Whedon’s style is easily transparent within his films and television shows, which encourages the audience to become his followers and active viewers.
